Dear FABRIC REU Site mentors, I am happy to report that we started the FABRIC REU Site yesterday. The students are well situated and have started going through the Core phase - getting refreshers on background and introductory materials, and multiple hands-on FABRIC tutorials. These are all designed to get them prepared for the mentored research projects. I am attaching a checklist to help with a smooth experience for the summer REU Site for the students, mentors and the organizers. I am also attaching the student roster, which is updated with their RENCI email addresses. The week 1 and week 2 schedule is also attached. I think it will be a good idea to conduct introductory mentor-student meetings in the next few days to provide background/materials for the assigned project, to set expectations and goals for the project, and to set a cadence for subsequent meetings. The FABRIC office hour slots in Week 2 and the lunch hours are potential slots of these meetings. Also, the program sometimes ends by 4pm or on some days by 3 or 3:30pm. So, after end times on those days should work as well. You can reach out to the students using their RENCI email addresses in the roster to set up the meetings.
