Dear FABRIC REU Site mentors,
I am happy to report that we started the FABRIC REU Site yesterday. The students are well situated and have started going through the Core phase - getting refreshers on background and introductory materials, and multiple hands-on FABRIC tutorials. These are all designed to get them prepared for the mentored research projects.
I am attaching a checklist to help with a smooth experience for the summer REU Site for the students, mentors and the organizers. I am also attaching the student roster, which is updated with their RENCI email addresses. The week 1 and week 2 schedule is also attached.
I think it will be a good idea to conduct introductory mentor-student meetings in the next few days to provide background/materials for the assigned project, to set expectations and goals for the project, and to set a cadence for subsequent meetings. The FABRIC office hour slots in Week 2 and the lunch hours are potential slots of these meetings. Also, the program sometimes ends by 4pm or on some days by 3 or 3:30pm. So, after end times on those days should work as well. You can reach out to the students using their RENCI email addresses in the roster to set up the meetings. Please let us know if you need any help setting up these introductory meetings.
